Have you ever found yourself in pitch black darkness? It can be very disorienting can it not? One of its effects is that you feel completely alone, especially if your other physical senses fail to compensate for your lack of sight. Being in complete darkness can make you feel as if there is just nothing else, nothing, nada, void, even if there is actually something or somebody right beside you. Not only can we experience this total alone-ness physically from our lack of sensory input, we can experience being completely cut-off, abandoned in a whole variety of human contexts – in relationships, in our emotions, in our mind, in our spirit, in a particular event, in an illness. read more »
