Prayer in Defense of Marriage

God our Father, we give you thanksfor the gift of marriage:
the bond of life and love, and the font of the family.
The love of husband and wife enriches your Church with children,
fills the world with a multitude of spiritual fruitfulness and service,
and is the sign of the love of your Son, Jesus Christ, for his Church.

The grace of Jesus flowed forth at Cana at the request of the Blessed Mother.
May your Son, through the intercession of Mary,
pour out upon us a new measure of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit
as we join with all people of good will to promote and protect
the unique beauty of marriage.

May your Holy Spirit enlighten our society to treasure
the heroic love of husband and wife,
and guide our leaders to sustain and protect
the singular place of mothers and fathers
in the lives of their children.

Father, we ask that our prayers be joined to those of the Virgin Mary,
that your Word may transform our service
so as to safeguard the incomparable splendor of marriage.
We ask all these things through Christ our Lord,
Amen.

Saints Joachim and Anne, pray for us.

Purpose Team Reflection Day

When: January 26, 2013 from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm

“We are not the Church of the future; we are part of the Church of the present!”
…was how one young person summed up the place of youth in the Church. How true! As we enter this year of 2013 and as we continue down the road of the Year of Faith, I would like to invite you and all the members of your ministry to our morning of reflection on the vital and dynamic presence of Youth in our parish. With our youth present, let us work together on developing a more comprehensive relationship amongst the adults and youth of our parish. Please RSVP to Gloria Kamski (stan.kamski@sympatico.ca), Chair of the Stewardship Council, by Friday January 18, 2013 to inform us of how many members of your ministry are attending.

Philippines Typhoon Relief

In response to the recent typhoon in the Philippines, the Archdiocese of Toronto is now accepting funds to support the work taking place in the affected areas.

There is an urgent need to distribute food, shelter, and medicine to the affected population. Thousands of people have fled their homes and are in need of basic necessities. Water scarcity and contamination is also a major problem. Heavy rains have caused rivers to overflow, resulting in flooding and landslides.

A Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols

This service will begin at 10:30 pm, before Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve

A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is the Christmas Eve service held in King's College Chapel, Cambridge, England.

It was first held on Christmas Eve 1918. It was planned by Eric Milner-White, who at the age of thirty-four had just been appointed Dean of King's after experience as an army chaplain which had convinced him that the Church of England needed more imaginative worship. It was first broadcast in 1928 and is now broadcast to millions of people around the world.

The service includes carols and readings from the Bible. The opening carol is always 'Once in Royal David's City'.

An Advent Reflection

This weekend we celebrated the Solemnity of Christ the King. First commemorated by Pope Pius XI in 1925, the Feast of Christ the King was meant as a reminder of God’s infinite providence and dominion over all,  reaffirming that Jesus Christ, the Alpha and the Omega, will come again in Glory.  It is fitting that the announcement of Christ’s Kingship should be followed by the season of Advent, the four Sundays before Christmas, which call us to “make ready the way” for the King of Kings.
