Considering the Financial Statement and the theme of service found in today’s readings, I would like to focus on Giving as an Act of Service.
Many of you know that in the past 5 years we have sought to become more intentional about how we do church. We have looked at why we exist as a parish community. We have sought to place Jesus more intentionally at the very centre of all that we are and all that we do. In many ways what St. Mark describes Jesus saying and doing in the Gospel today, and what St. Paul tells the Corinthians in the second reading, captures what we are about as a parish.
Jesus’ mission, St. Paul’s mission, our mission is very clear. It is to proclaim the Good News. What is the Good News? Victor stated it last Sunday in his reflection: God has come close to us in the person of Jesus. He comes to save us from our sins. Why is this of utmost importance?
