God of grace, help us to rediscover how to be side by side in rebuilding our communities of faith and learning. Help us restore harmony and balance in our relationships, and renew our desire to approach challenges confidently and with peaceful hearts. May we always rejoice in recognizing the blessings our lives hold. Amen
During Catholic Education Week we give thanks for the gift of publicly funded Catholic Education in our province. Catholic schools foster supportive communities where young people can experience the joy of God’s love and understand the Christian mission in the world. Together, our parishes, educators and families sow the seeds of faith with the next generation of Catholics, challenging them to live as joyful and faithful disciples. Publicly funded Catholic education has existed in Ontario since 1841 and its graduates have served Ontario and Canada very well. The current generation of students in our publicly funded Catholic schools will serve with the same spirit and generosity as their previous generations.
The theme of Catholic Education Week 2022 is “Rebuild, Restore, Renew Together.” We are asked to reflect on the Scriptural passage from Revelation 21:5, which tells us: “Behold, I make all things new.” This theme captures the hope that can be present for all of us during these uncertain times of Covid and in our mental health struggles resulting from the pandemic. The theme is also meant to help us reflect on the bright future that is possible for Indigenous reconciliation.
Each day, Catholic educators help young people embrace the joy of being the children of God. And they show students how to share God’s love with the world.
We are blessed to enjoy publicly funded Catholic education in our province, thanks to the sacrifice of those who have come before us. We must nurture this gift and seize opportunities to partner with families, parishes and educators to nurture another generation of Catholics. But the continued success of Catholic education won’t be possible without your support. We ask that you:
1) Share your gifts and talents with our publicly-funded Catholic schools as a volunteer. There are many opportunities to get involved, whether it is serving on a parent council, a school-based committee or helping at any number of events as a volunteer. To learn more, contact your local Catholic school or the board office. Please consider sharing your time and talents with us!
2) Even if you do not have children in the system, we ask you to ensure that your property taxes indicate you are a separate school supporter. You can check to see that you are listed as a separate school supporter on your municipal tax assessment roll by visiting www.voterlookup.ca. Not only can you check the accuracy of your record, but you can correct your information online. This record demonstrates to the government that you support publicly-funded Catholic education.
Please consider how you can get involved and help build on the incredible work taking place both in our neighbourhood and throughout the province.
Let us continue to pray for all those who help make our Catholics schools a place where everyone can experience and share God’s love, working together as joyful disciples.
