On the final day of the delegation of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada to the Holy See, all of the delegates and those who have accompanied them participated in a final audience with Pope Francis in the Clementine Hall of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican. Pope Francis met with all three indigenous delegations and had this to say:
“For the deplorable conduct of those members of the Catholic Church, I ask for God's forgiveness and I want to say to you with all my heart: I am very sorry. And I join my brothers, the Canadian bishops, in asking your pardon.” - Pope Francis

Over the past months, we have been made aware of suffering and pain in the Indigenous people in Canada. Please take a moment and listen to my message as we try to find a way toward healing.
We also know that many Catholics have asked for additional information, are unsure of this history and wondering how to respond when asked about it. In addition to resources like the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report, the Archdiocese of Toronto has also prepared a webpage with numerous resources, links and information www.archtoronto.org/residentialschools
We look forward to sharing more information with you on our plans in the days ahead. If you are in need of further support, contact us at parish@stpatrick.on.ca
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Dominic
