The Archdiocese of Toronto celebrates the feast day of our archdiocesan patron, St. Michael, on Friday, September 29, 2023. All are welcome to join in a special celebration on that day at 5:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica (65 Bond St.). Archbishop Francis Leo will celebrate Mass, with music from the world-renowned St. Michael’s Choir School. As part of the celebration, the Apostolic Nuncio to Canada, the Most Rev. Ivan Jurkovič will confer the pallium on our archbishop, a symbol of his role as Metropolitan Archbishop of Toronto and shepherd to the faithful.
Following Mass, there will be an informal reception with light refreshments in the St. Michael’s Cathedral atrium and courtyard. Seating will be first come, first served. All are welcome to join in this special celebration for our archdiocese and archbishop!
Canadian Bishops Release Pastoral Letters to Advance the Healing Journey with Indigenous Peoples of this land
On February 8, 2023, the Bishops of Canada released a series of pastoral letters to advance the journey of healing, reconciliation and hope with Indigenous Peoples of this land. Individual letters have been prepared for First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities. In addition, the bishops have released a letter to Catholics throughout the country.
Ukrainians who have been displaced by the current conflict in Ukraine war have not been designated as refugees by the Canadian federal government. As a consequence of this decision, the Archdiocese of Toronto is not able to sponsor Ukrainians through Canada’s Private Sponsorship of Refugee’s program. Instead, Canadians are asked to consider hosting Ukrainian families who have arrived to Canada under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) program. With over 200,000 having already arrived, most arriving to Toronto, and a further 800,000 who have applied to the program and who are expected to arrive in the coming months, the need is great.

Five men currently studying for the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Toronto will be ordained to the transitional diaconate this fall. This is a significant milestone in the ongoing formation process that the seminarians have undertaken over the last number of years through St. Augustine’s Seminary in Toronto.
Transitional deacons are those in formation in view of being ordained to the priesthood.
